COMMUNITY GROUPS
Fall is back-to-school time with classes, new groups
by Dan Hlad
Traditionally, fall marks a time for kids when summer break ends and school begins once again. Ironically, this is the same for gays and lesbians in the Cleveland area. Through the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, the community can take advantage of adult education classes offered beginning the week of September 15.
The classes range in price and length, but there are various activities to satisfy every interest.
Men's Group and a Center Women's Group, open to all gay and bisexual men and lesbian and bisexual women, respectively. The men's group is a support and discussion group that meets the first and third Thursday at each month. The women's group is also a support and discussion group and meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
LESBIAN-GAY
Community Service Center
This year's schedule includes: Gay Literature, Creative Writing, Meditation, Self Defense, Beginner Bridge, Language of the Heart (for couples), Dog Obedience, and Ballroom Dance.
The classes are designed for education and entertainment and those interested in registration should call the Center quickly, class sizes are limited.
Many of this summer's activities are coming to a close, but that's okay. The Center will also host several new groups this fall beginning in September, guaranteed to keep your date book full.
These new groups will include a Center
OF GREATER CLEVELAND
Out of the Dark will also be a Center support and discussion group for people who want to more effectively balance their sexuality with their spirituality. This group will also meet the first and third Thursday of each month beginning in September. The Center will also offer a monthly social night the last Friday of each month from 8 to 10 pm beginning in September. This is designed to be a fun alternative to bars, where people can get together and meet new friends.
There is a lot going on this fall, so for more information, call the Center at 216-522-1999 or stop by our booth at the We Are Family Picnic on September 8.
Pride cards are still available for Center members and the lists of businesses offering discounts to cardholders are growing. Get yours today!
